The Purple Line Transit Partners consortium, of which The Lane Construction Corporation is a part, has been selected to design and build the Purple Line transit system, valued at $2 billion. It was announced by Larry Hogan, the Governor of Maryland. The project will have 21 stations along a 16-mile route that extends from Bethesda to New Carrolton and crosses the Counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s in Maryland. The consortium, in which Lane has a 30% share (for a value of $600 million) and includes Fluor Enterprises Inc. and Traylor Bros Inc., will begin work before the end of 2016 aiming to finish in 2022. Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn said that “Purple Line Transit Partners is positioned to deliver a tremendous value to Maryland taxpayers with great construction know-how, superior transit expertise, and continued low interest rates.” The new line will improve mobility towards main commercial centres as well as the University of Maryland, contributing to the development of the area.
